Strictlyfishwrap Science Radio Hour: Episode 8

Author: Skylar Bayer

This week I covered some of what I’ve been up to with the scallop spawning season, interviewed Trish Cheney from DMR, and paid some tribute to Gary Wheeler. The last time I saw Gary was when I hosted Episode 7. He was so excited about his daughter’s wedding the next weekend but he didn’t make it past September 1st. I really missed him today — he used to come in about quarter after three p.m. and listened to my show, gave me feedback and even helped me out when I had technical difficulties. So all the music breaks are from my favorite science fiction/alien films as a child in honor of Gary’s “High Strangeness” radio show. We’ll miss you, Gary.

The interview with Trish is about the scallop management we have here in Maine — there will be a second part of this interview played at a later date (probably September 27th, so pencil that into your calendar). Scallop season in Maine opens up December 1st, so shows this fall will be focused mostly around scallops in preparation!

Stay curious and hopeful, everyone.

Music breaks: The Gammy Bird by Christopher Young, Awful Waste of Space by Alan Silvestri, The Gift by Elliot Goldenthal, Escape/Chase/Saying Goodbye by John Williams.
